Walter Alza came to Canada from Argentina in the late 1980s — no English, no connections, no guarantee. People told him to find another career. He proved them all wrong.

Walter built one of the most impressive careers of any Canadian actor. Known as "Canada's very own bad boy," he earned that reputation opposite 50 Cent and Jim Sheridan in Get Rich or Die Trying. He has headlined hits like Metropia and shared the screen with legends from Ricky Gervais to John Candy.

Walter teaches what he does. He is still in the craft, directing award-winning films and producing features sold to major networks. He brings the fire of a real set into every class.

"When Walter acts, you see the intensity of a beast in him."

— Jim Sheridan, Academy Award-Nominated Director

He has worked alongside
the legends.

Walter's career has placed him on set with some of the biggest names in film and television history — experience he brings directly into every class he teaches.

Catherine O'Hara · 50 Cent · Ricky Gervais · Eric Bana · Terrence Howard · John Candy · Christopher Lloyd · John Stamos · Charles Bronson · Leslie Nielsen · Paul Sorvino · David Carradine · Kim Coates · America Ferrera · Kelly Macdonald · George Wendt · John Landis · Academy Award Nominee Jim Sheridan

WHAT IS THE SIZE OF YOUR DREAM? (TM)

Walter Alza · In His Own Words

People always ask me:
How do you become an actor?

Put it out in the universe and take action — it can happen. There are many reasons why someone wants to act. Maybe you want to become a professional actor. Maybe part-time. Maybe acting is a hobby, or you're already working and want to take it to the next level. Or maybe you always wanted to try — why not?

My first question to you is —
what is the size of your dream?
100+
Episodes of union television and film. No experience. No English. No connections. I went from nothing to working actor to award winner — and I did it in a country that wasn't mine.

Imagine coming to Canada all the way from Argentina — the country of Tango and great wine — in the late 80s, without speaking English, wanting to make it in showbiz. Crazy idea? Of course it was. For many years I was told by people in the business, friends, some family — find another career. You will never make it.

After much rejection and fighting adversity — I kind of proved the establishment wrong. How? Determination. Belief. And by taking action — by not letting anyone or anything stop me from achieving my dream.

Even if you want to act part-time — you can do it. After 30 years of working in this business, myself and our award-winning team will coach you and guide you to get to where you want to go. If it happened to me, it can happen to you.

"If it happened to me,
it can happen to you." — Walter Alza · Founder, Alza Acting Studio

Walter teaches what he does — not what he read

We teach what the
masters taught.

Walter Alza’s goal is to do for his students what Meisner, Stanislavsky, Strasberg, and Stella Adler did for theirs — teach from the inside of the craft, not the outside.

Every instructor at Alza is a working professional. We don’t hire teachers who stopped performing. We hire artists who are still in the fight — and who bring that fire into every class.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or a professional crossing over to film — Alza is where your career is built.

The lineage we honor:

  • Sanford Meisner — Truth in the moment
  • Konstantin Stanislavsky — The foundation
  • Lee Strasberg — Emotional depth & the Method
  • Stella Adler — Imagination & bold character
  • Walter Alza — 30 years of results on set
"Walter Alza has been an inspiration to many of my clients. He gives them confidence, perspective, and a new approach to auditioning — which ultimately helps them win the role."
— Shari Quallenberg, Agent & Owner · AMI Artist Management Inc.
