THIS IS WHERE
WORKING ACTORS
GET BETTER.

Most actors plateau. They train, they book occasionally, and then they hit a wall they can't explain. The Advanced On-Camera Acting class is built for the actor who knows the plateau is there — and is serious enough to break through it.

A Progression — Not a Starting Point

This class is a direct advancement of the work built in the Next Level and Intermediate classes. Working on camera specifically with Walter Alza's technique tailored for film and TV — using elements of the Meisner technique, Stanislavsky method, and Chekhov's biomechanics — you will continue to find higher levels of connection in the text and the character in challenging scenes and scenarios.

The Director-Actor Relationship

Directors and actors communicate differently. Knowing what the director wants — and how to bring it — is one of the most important and least-taught skills in acting training. In this class, you will learn scene study within the language of the director-actor relationship. You will learn to take direction quickly, adjust under pressure, and become the actor directors trust and want to hire again.

"When Walter acts, you see the intensity of a beast in him. He is a force of nature — and that force is in the room when he teaches."
Jim Sheridan Academy Award Nominated Director · Get Rich or Die Tryin' · In the Name of the Father

"I booked a role on a TV show. I owe so much to the studio. Thank you to the instructors, my peers, and most importantly the magician himself — Walter Alza — for always believing in and pushing me forward and upward."

THE ADVANCED

Complex, emotionally layered scenes with original sides written to push range. Each session may have special Theme Weeks to focus on a specific element of the craft or type of scene.

03
📸
The Craft of the Close-Up

Multi-camera HD review focused on "The Craft of the Close-Up." Ensuring your internal character work translates to the screen with precision and emotional truth — exactly as it appears to casting and directors.

04

Biomechanics & Movement

Working with more detailed aspects of biomechanics and movement that mimic the on-set experience. Physical precision, spatial awareness, and the body as a full instrument for film.

05

Honing finer points of direction and execution. Taking risks, having faith in your work, making bold committed choices — the difference between an actor who is good and one who is unforgettable.

06

Applying all skills to auditions, rehearsals, and on-set performances — three different environments that each require different preparation and execution. Master-level readiness for all three.

What He Brings To The Advanced Class

When Walter gives you a redirect in the advanced class, it comes from 30 years of standing in front of a camera — knowing exactly what the director sees, what casting notices, and what the screen reveals that the actor cannot feel in the moment.

He has shot 23 pages a day on a major TV series. He knows what it is to perform under pressure, on a schedule, for a director who needs it now. That is what he teaches. Not what the textbooks say. What the industry actually demands.

The Technique He Teaches

The Alza Method draws from Meisner, Stanislavsky, and Chekhov — evolved through three decades of professional on-camera work. At the advanced level, these tools are applied with greater specificity, higher stakes, and more demanding material than any previous class in the program.

His Network Is Your Resource

Walter has hosted top casting directors from across Canada as guests at the studio. He leads the agent showcase at Casting Workbook several times a year. His relationships with the industry are a direct resource for the actors who train with him at this level.

Advanced On-Camera Acting Classes in Toronto — What to Look For

If you're searching for advanced on-camera acting classes in Toronto, the most important question isn't which class has the most students or the most social media presence. The most important question is: who is teaching it, and have they done it?

At the advanced level, you don't need someone who has studied acting. You need someone who has lived a professional career in film and television — who has been on major sets, worked with A-list directors, and faced the specific pressures of performing on camera at a professional level.

Advanced Acting Toronto — The Meisner & Stanislavsky Connection

The most enduring acting techniques in film — Meisner, Stanislavsky, Chekhov — are not museum pieces. They are living tools that, when correctly applied to the camera, produce the kind of grounded, lived-in, specific performances that casting directors notice and directors trust.

Walter Alza has spent 30 years doing exactly this — applying these classical tools to the specific demands of film and television performance. The Advanced class is where those tools are wielded at their highest and most demanding level.

What Makes Advanced Acting Training Different in Toronto

  • Original sides written with emotional switches — not stock material
  • Multi-camera HD playback — you see what the camera actually sees
  • Director-actor communication taught from first-hand professional experience
  • Small class size — every actor gets real, substantial, individual attention
  • High standards, zero ego — the culture of a professional set

Advanced Film & TV Acting for Working Actors in Toronto

Toronto is one of North America's largest film and television production centres. Productions from major US and international studios film here year-round. The competition for roles at the advanced level is significant — and the margin between a callback and a booking is often a matter of craft depth, not talent.

On-Camera Technique at the Master Level

The close-up is the grammar of film. Every advanced actor must understand how internal character work translates to the lens — and the gap between what you feel in the performance and what the camera actually captures. This is the specific craft Walter Alza has refined over 120+ professional TV appearances and 40+ productions.

Advanced Acting for ACTRA Actors in Toronto

Many students at this level are ACTRA members or on the path to ACTRA membership. The Advanced class is designed to operate at the standard the professional industry expects — fast direction uptake, strong individual choices, and the ability to deliver consistently under pressure.

Agent Access & Career Advancement

Walter leads agent showcases at Casting Workbook multiple times a year. Advanced students who demonstrate the required level of craft have access to the same industry pathways that have launched numerous Alza alumni into represented, working careers in film and television.
